Stay Vigilant - Watch Out for Covid-19 Scams

On Tuesday, December 1, 2020, after several months of litigation, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) released detailed information on all PPP Loans, EIDL Loans, and EIDL Advances.  The data was released as a result of a lawsuit filed by news organizations to obtain the information through the Freedom of Information Act.  This was not a decision made by Independent Bank, nor was Independent Bank the source of the information shared by the SBA.

Following the release of this information, there have been a number of reported attempts to defraud companies.  Please exercise extreme caution if you receive marketing solicitations to assist you with your PPP loan or PPP forgiveness, and be on the lookout for other phishing and fraud attempts. If you receive anything suspicious, or have any questions regarding your PPP loan/forgiveness or EIDL loan/advance, we encourage you to reach out to your account officer here at Independent Bank, your accountant, or another known, trusted advisor.

Note: As a PPP loan recipient, you may be contacted directly by the SBA as part of its own guidelines.  If the SBA contacts you, please notify your account officer at Independent Bank before providing any information, and we will assist you.
