Although it's important to stay organized throughout the year, life can sometimes interfere with our plans. Springtime is a perfect chance to tidy up your home and get everything back on track.

Clearing out the clutter may be a bit of a challenge, but the feeling of accomplishment once you're finished will make it all worthwhile. In addition, your house will look amazing and spark joy!

Try some of the following ways to get your home into shape during spring cleaning:

1. Deep Clean.  Since deep cleaning is quite a task, it cannot be carried out on a regular basis. At the same time, it's the perfect time to get into all the nooks and crannies during spring cleaning. It'll ensure that your home looks spotless!

  • Rent a steam cleaner and clean all of your carpets and upholstery.

  • Note the condition of your bathrooms to see if deep cleaning is required there as well.

2. Get out the ladder. Spring-cleaning is the perfect time to dust off those hard-to-reach places. Don't forget your ceiling fans, the top of doors and light fixtures! Dust them first, then you can use a regular vacuum to clean up the fallen dust afterwards.

3. Vacuum. Spring cleaning is an ideal time to pay extra attention to vacuuming, even if you're in the habit of doing a quick tidy up job. Put in the extra effort and take your time; vacuum crevices, underneath furniture and all those areas that might have been missed during regular clean-up.

4. Wash all surface. Cleaning all the surfaces in your home can be time-consuming, but it's essential for eliminating dust & dirt build up. Don't forget to clean walls, cabinets and other areas that you may not ordinarily think to clean. Grab a cloth and start cleaning!

5. Organize. Organizational skills are important and can really help you stay on top of tasks. If you've been using any organizational methods, it could be beneficial to go back and ensure everything is in the right place. If there's no organizational system in place yet, maybe consider what would work best for you.

  • This is a great opportunity to go through the "junk drawer" and other places where things may have piled up

6. Sift through the clutter. Find the areas of your house that are cluttered and deal with the items there. If you have items you need to keep, assign them a permanent spot so they are out of the way & easily accessible when needed.

  • If you need to keep some items, but aren't using them every day, find a place to pack them away for the future. If you feel that you can do without it, consider dropping it off for donation.

7. Get your family involved.  Working together can make cleaning so much easier! Encourage your children to take responsibility for their own rooms, and then assign other tasks to the rest of the family - nobody has to do it all alone.

  • Acknowledge the efforts of everyone in the family by rewarding them at the end of a hard day's work. Why not have a pizza night to celebrate together?

Don't overwhelm yourself when it comes to tidying up; just keep taking small steps and eventually everything will be in order. It's okay if you don't get it all done at once - just do the best you can and the rest will come together in due time.
