There are certain mistakes that can decrease your odds of success dramatically. Keep these in mind to stay on-track and successful. Eliminate these mistakes and you'll be well-positioned for a healthy career.

Avoid theses pitfalls:

Proceeding without a plan.

Many people don’t have a plan for much of what happens in their life. Successful people have a plan for nearly everything. It's hard to do this with so many distractions and responsibility, but you'll notice the difference if you make a plan. Think about what needs to be done in order to reach your goals and make a timetable that fits with your lifestyle.

Giving up too soon.

Most of us give up far too easily. Your successful friends probably aren’t smarter or more talented than you are - they are just more persistent. Successful people persevere until their objectives are met.

Repeating mistakes.

If you could make one mistake, learn from it and not make it again in the future, you’d be an incredibly powerful and successful person. Take today to look back over your biggest failures and write a list of mistakes you’ve made. You might be surprised at how many patterns you’ll find! What could you do differently next time?

Trying to change others.

You may have noticed that it’s hard to change yourself; it’s even harder to change others because they do not want to change. Trying to change others is not a good use of your time. Find out what people are capable of and take advantage of their potential.

Failing to take advantage of your strengths.

You are special and have a number of skills and abilities. You may have been born with them, or developed them over time. It can be worth it to spend time on your weaknesses at times, but make sure you call on your strengths more often than not.

Prioritizing poorly.

The average person either fails to prioritize or does it poorly. How do you currently set your priorities? Spend your time on the tasks which will bring you the most benefit.

Using emotions to make decisions.

In most cases, your experience and logic are best for making important decisions. When you’re stressed or even euphoric, it can be easy to make a bad decision. The more relaxed your mind is, the more access to your intellectual capabilities you’ll have.

Procrastinating.

It’s surprisingly uncommon to find successful people who procrastinate. Successful people are action-oriented and always get things done. Try looking at the difference in your most and least successful acquaintances to see the difference in their propensity to procrastinate.

Changing their mind frequently.

Assuming you make decisions carefully, it will be rare for you to need to change your mind. Unsuccessful people are prone to indecision. That's one of the reasons they fail to make progress and success. Successful people have a more decisive mindset.

How many of these mistakes do you make regularly? Can you see how they limit your success?

While it may seem tempting to think about what the most successful people do in life, sometimes it's better to focus on what they don’t do. Try to avoid these common mistakes that will prevent you from reaching your potential. Most of us don’t just make these mistakes, we make them over and over. Avoid the same mistakes successful people avoid and you’ll have more success in your life.
